Commuter Challenge

Why We Do This

The challenge started when John Pogson, the captain of the WorleyParsons Komex Calgary cycling team - Team Spin (and an avid year-round bicycle commuter) started to think about ways to improve our corporate racing team's performance. How could we get people to commute through the cold, dark, winter months?

A few of us would regularly ride our bikes, but most "normal" people put them away for the winter. We knew that winter commuting was actually no problem with the right clothing and attitude (better than climbing into a cold car). However, once we started thinking about it, the Challenge became attractive for a variety of other reasons:

Environment:

we're an environmental consulting firm, and many of us are very environmentally conscious - we're putting our philosophy into action.

Health:

Why sit in a car or on a bus when you could be exercising?

Team Building:

Many at WorleyParsons Komex are very competitive, and points are tallied for both individuals and groups.

After two years of competing amongst ourselves and gaining some publicity through CBC Radio and other media, we thought it appropriate to open our challenge up to the world.

Enjoy.
